What does Matt really do at work? Eternal Skateboards Edition

Recently I have been really excited about everything happening at work and I would like to take the time over the next couple of weeks to explain to you all what that actually means.

To break it down for you, I work for a company called Trinity Distribution, and have been involved in many different areas over the past few years. (Boardstore, the Skateshop and The Woods Indoor Skatepark.) But from now on I am solely working in Trinity Distribution.

Trinity Distribution is 1 of the main skateboard distributions in Australia and is continuing to grow... we import skateboarding products from the US and sell those products to hundreds of skate shops around Australia. This past year I have been promoted to Director of Sales for Trinity which basically means... I do my best to sell everything we get in.
Another branch of what we do, is own and operate different skateboard brands. They are getting more popular all the time in Australia and we hope to expand them to be international!

I would like to start by introducing you to Eternal Skateboards...

We are hoping to do two ranges every year!
Eternal Skateboards originally was owned and operated by Canadian in their homeland! (Holla!) Canadian Maple is the best wood for skateboards and no one has ever disagreed. While the cost of physically pressing the skateboards in Canada is too high and everything is now made in China, they still use Canadian Maple as their premium quality wood.

Eternal skateboards was the first ever product that Trinity Distribution imported and over time Trinity Distribution bought the licencing and it is now owned and operated here in Australia by.......us!

Lately, we have been working really hard to market Eternal Skateboards in Australia for the latest range.
I work closely with our designer Desmond discussing ideas for graphics and then once the graphics are sorted, it is my job to figure out what the sizes & quantities are to order and how we are going to promote them.

I recently came up with the idea to put some extra effort into making a clean and crisp catalogue showing the new range. We are really stoked on the first one and it has really helped to create a hype around the new range of graphics!

All the new Eternal Boards on the racks, ready to be sold to skate shops

But my main job starts when the decks get here! That's when I spend long hours calling shop after shop after shop trying to sell the Eternal Skateboards. It takes time and the bigger the brand is, the easier it is to do my job. It is incredible when new store says 'I've heard of Eternal, Sure, I'll grab a few!' it just means our brands are getting out into the skate world, gets me pretty excited!!

It has been an exciting journey and I'm very privileged to be apart of the process.

But you know what the best part is...

Grabbing one of the new boards and going for a skate!

Until next time,
Matt

  1. Thanks for the info Matt! I don't envy all the phone calling...my least favourite! How is Trinity related to YWAM? Is there a ministry aspect to the job? Looking forward to a warmer visit when you can show us your skillz and maybe teach a few to my boys (*seriously, if you can get Kelsey on a board, anyone should be able to, right?)

    1. Hey Shauna (I'm guessing) Trust me, phone calling can still get a little bit intimidating at times, but I generally love doing it!

      Great question!
YWAM Sunshine Coast is very different to the Townsville Kelsey was at. Just different opportunities I guess.
Out of YWAM Sunshine Coast these are the following ongoing courses and ministries:

      Courses
      1. DTS (Discipleship Training School)
      2. SBS (School of Biblical Studies)
      3. Online BCC (Biblical Core Course) This is what Kelsey is currently helping to pioneer

Ministries (all run by YWAM Sunshine Coast staff)
      1. DTS outreach (Ongoing outreaches to third world countries)
      2. One Friday Skate Ministry (Explained below)
      3. Moselle Clothing (A clothing company bringing third world awareness about slavery)
      4. Kai Coffee (A coffee company that donates 100% of net profit to non-profit organisations helping kids in need.

Ok, you still following (it's really hard to not explain this in full, sorry about the length of it)

So One Friday Skate Ministry is what I am apart of, which is a strand of YWAM. The following list have different individual missional focuses which i will highlight.

Boardstore (3 Skate shops and a Surf/Coffee Shop)
Goal: To reach the local community and create natural relationships with those who have similar passions.

The Woods (an indoorskatepark by Boardstore)
Goal: To provide the option for parents to bring their kids to an environment much safer and controlled than a standard outdoor skatepark. We also provide skateboard coaching to kids aged 5-18 at the moment which helps them to progress in the sport. But also reach the kids through relationship and once a month we hold a thing called Skatechurch.

      Trinity Distribution (Wholesale Skateboard Distribution)
Goal: To provide the Australian Skateboard Community with quality products. In doing that, becoming a well respected and trustworthy company within the skate industry and from that platform reaching a much wider skateboard audience for the kingdom of god. I have a pretty big heart for this and am constantly talking to people quite high up in the skate industry here in Australia and overseas. I'd like to see more and more guys stay clear of drugs and alcohol and live a much healthier lifestyle.

      Pure Parks Australia (Missional Focus)
Goal: Reach every skatepark in Australia and pray for the skatepark, clean it and hang with kids, offering them free copies of the 'Skate Bible'

Skate Bible (An easy reading new testament bible)
Goal: To make the bible more approachable for skaters through Skater testimonies scattered through and easy read text and language. (haha kinda stereotypcial to view skaters like this, but it works)

Trinity Skateparks (Import and build pre-fabricated skateramps for councils)
Goal: To go around Australia and beyond and work with local councils to build facilities for the upcoming youth.

      (Takes a deep breath)

I think that's it! Like i said, I'm sorry that was sooooo long it's just hard to explain one thing with out the others. Hope that helps to make sense of it all.

I would want nothing more to teach Simon to skate, just might see the scratched knee count go into double figures though. Scott has it covered I'm sure though! Can't wait.

      :) talk soon
